Patricia Reider – English 110

CLO#6: Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.

Examples of these attributes of CLO#6 are available in the Bibliographies of my expository essay, my argumentative essay, and my PowerPoint presentation.

My research included searches in JSTOR and Google Scholar as well as at the CCNY and NYPL library systems. I also viewed documentary videos through PBS.com and the BBC.uk websites.

All of these sources are highly reliable and of the highest standard. In fact, on two occasions there were retraction made immediately before the journal articles were displayed which gave me the option to either pursue that same avenue for my writing or abandon it and decide if I needed to find a new direction.

In considering the sources I used, I looked for who or what was cited to verify the article’s validity and I followed the rules given to us by Ty in the library research class as to whether the web sites were legitimate or just fronts for outside agendas.

I found the aspect of multi-media in research to be a very good experience.. although I am aware that these new technologies need to be scrutinized for accuracy and reliability just as much, or even perhaps more then the traditional print resources.
